Madeleine Brozek grew up in Utrecht, Weert, and Hilversum. From the age of three, she received violin and piano lessons from her mother and grandmother. Later, she studied with various violin teachers, including Evelien Bouwmeester, Cobi Berculo, and Alla Kim. As a child, Madeleine sang a lot, earning her the nickname “Lala.” At twelve, she began attending theater classes at UCK in Utrecht, where she took singing, dance, and acting lessons. At sixteen, she spent a year in a musical theater class, and at seventeen, she completed the preparatory course for theater school. That same year, she also started classical singing lessons with Maja Roodveldt. After finishing her VWO diploma, she initially studied history. After a year at university, she decided to audition for the conservatory on violin and was rather unexpectedly accepted at the Rotterdam Conservatory, where she studied with Benzion Shamir. After several years focused solely on the violin, she resumed singing at the age of twenty-four. She currently studies voice with Nicole Fiselier. In addition to a diploma as a performing and teaching violinist, Madeleine also earned a degree in history and obtained a basic teaching qualification at VU.

She currently plays or has played in various orchestras, including the European Union Chamber Orchestra (EUCO), Nieuwe Filharmonie Utrecht (NPU), Accademia Amsterdam (Baroque), Concerto da Fusignano (Baroque), Collegium Delft, Noordpool, Dordts Kamerorkest, Holland Orkest, Mrs. Darcy String Trio, Cantata Service Culemborg (Baroque), and the Domcantorij (Baroque and modern). She has also performed as a soloist in the Dom Church in Utrecht and with the Intermezzo Ensemble in Amersfoort. At present, Madeleine is taking Baroque lessons with David Rabinovich.

Madeleine teaches violin at the music school in Barendrecht and runs a successful private teaching practice. Her students regularly win prizes at violin competitions. More information about Madeleine’s violin lessons can be found on the ‘Pedagogue’ page.

As a student, Madeleine was a violinist with the Ricciotti Ensemble. At a young age, she played with the renowned youth ensemble Cuypersensemble under Jouke van der Leest. Madeleine has won several prizes as a young talent at regional violin competitions in Amersfoort.
